From a question to a recorded decision, with every source in view.
sy-leph gathers the evidence a decision depends on, keeps the source and date of each item, runs the analysis and records what was decided and why. Missing, stale and conflicting evidence stays visible.
The steps stay the same. The sources, units and methods change with the question. Two examples follow: a procurement opportunity review and a portfolio monitoring question.
01Question or objective
State the decision, its owner and deadline. The factors that matter follow from it, not from the data already at hand.
02Evidence
Each observation keeps its source, publication date and retrieval date. Missing, stale and conflicting items are marked as such.
03Analysis
The method, formula and assumptions are shown. Alternative explanations and unanswered points are recorded beside the result.
04Decision record
What was decided, by whom, on which evidence, with open conditions, owners and a date for the next review.
Example 1: procurement opportunity review
Illustration with synthetic data. No real buyer, supplier or contract.
Should we bid for this framework contract, and for which lots?
Buyer: regional public hospital group (synthetic). Four lots, three-year term.

Analysis
FitLots 2 and 3 meet the stated qualification criteria. Lot 4 requires a certification that is not held.
Estimated value, lots 2 and 3EUR 0.8 to 1.0 million over three years.Previous award × share of lots 2 and 3 (45 to 50 per cent) × price change since award (1.00 to 1.10)
Alternative explanationThe lot 3 quantity gap may reflect a revised annex. The later document governs once the buyer confirms it.
Not establishedIncumbent capacity. The price reference is more than two years old.

Analysis
SensitivityA parallel rise of 0.50 points in yields implies a sleeve price change of about -3.4 per cent.-modified duration × yield change = -6.8 × 0.50 points. First order only; convexity and curve shape ignored.
Alternative explanationThe move may follow energy prices rather than wages. Energy evidence is missing and core inflation does not yet confirm a broad rise.
Not establishedThe driver of the move. Wage evidence is one quarter old.
Decision record
Hold duration at 6.8 years. Reduce to 6.0 years if five-year implied inflation closes above 2.5 per cent on two consecutive days.
Portfolio manager, 25 September 2026.
Connect an energy price series to this watch. Data lead, due 2 October 2026.
Watch active. Next review after the inflation release of 16 October 2026.
Both records use the same structure. What differs is the evidence each question needs and the method that can be applied to it. The figures above are synthetic and show the form of the output only.
